Abstract

Uncoordinated uterine activity will lead to a lengthy labor; hence, uterine contractions, cervical dilation, cervical dilatation, and effecement might impact labor discomfort. Cold compresses and back massages are two non-pharmacological methods for easing childbirth discomfort. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that first stage active phase primiparous mothers have less discomfort during labor while using a cold compress rather than back massage. On first stage active phase primiparous mothers, experimental research employing a pre-post test control group design were carried out. Purposive sampling was used to choose samples, which were then split into two groups: the back massage group (n = 16) and the cold compress group (n = 16). The wong beker pain rating scale is the dependent variable in this study, whilst a cold compress and a back massage are the independent variables. The results indicated that a back massage is more significant than a cold compress (Man Whitney U test, p value > 0.005). According to the study's findings, back massages are more helpful in reducing discomfort in first-stage active-phase primiparous mothers than cold compresses
